The Mighty Bear 76er: An American Classic

When I first came across the Bear 76er bow from the 1970s, I was intrigued by its unique design elements, especially the grip and the option to attach a fishing reel. This bow stands out not just for its vintage appeal but also for its thoughtful features that catered to archers who enjoyed a more versatile and fun experience.

The grip on the Bear 76er is a standout feature that reflects the design priorities of the 1970s. Unlike many modern bows that focus heavily on ergonomic shapes and synthetic materials, the 76er’s grip is the greatest archery grip ever made, hands down. With the Bear Marksman being the only one coming close.

What I noticed immediately was how the grip fits comfortably in the hand without any aggressive contours or finger grooves. I tend to heel the bow in my hand and maybe I was just lucky that the grip with the bow was the lower type. However this simplicity allows for a relaxed hold, which is perfect for archers who prefer shooting without sights and want to focus on instinctive aiming. It really does encourage a consistent hand position, and the fact that you can easily swap out for different grips is genius.

This particular bow was picked up from Ebay for a bargain, still with Bow reel stickers attached, the limbs however were a different issue

Limbs from the 70s: A Unique Twist

The limbs that came with this bow were original but unfortunately slightly warped. But luckily some clever cookie came up with the idea of adding Samick Sage limbs. All they needed was a little sanding down and hey presto!
